Mark, Dimilin is excellent control for VBC and will suppress Bollworms complex and BAWs but will not give you the control you get with VBC. Two ounces of Dimilin will give you control but the rate is 2-4 ounces so there is no problem with going up to 3 ounces. If VBCs are your main problem then I would just apply the Dimilin if there are large numbers of other species consider a knockdown insecticide for the other species of worms.

Eddie, I just scouted a field that has alot of cow birds in it. Found BAW small, VBC mostly and a few CEW/TBW. Peanuts are 90 days old and have not had an insecticide treatment before. Would you still use the 2 oz. of Dimilin or go up to maybe 3 oz?? Also, will Dimilin control Boll worm complex?
He plans to spray next week with scheduled fungicide spray. Found 6-8 worms avg. per foot of small medium and large larvae. Thanks, Mark

The first thing to do is to identify the beetles. You may want to bring them to your local Extension office and see if they can send them to a entomologist to i.d. them. Usually the best way to give rid of beetles in the home is to find the source and then determine how to control them. I might to able to i.d. them from a good picture send to me or you can mail them to me at Coffee County Extension Office, 709 East Ward Street, Douglas Georgia 31533. I guess without seeing them or having a better desciption they may be carpet beetles.

Eva, Please call your county Extension agent Bobby Smith at 706- 342- 2214. He is a good resource. He is the Morgan County Extension agent. I believe Rutledge is in Morgan County. One of our biggest problem in keeping young blueberry plants alive, especially if they are planted in the spring, is keeping them well watered. Growers think they are keeping well watered but the potting soil the young plants are in acts as a wick. The soil will be moisture around the potting soil the young plants are in but the roots will be dry as a bone. Also if they were in gallon pots when you planted them, they may be pot-bound and dry. Another problem is pH. Blueberries like a pH of 4.5-5.2. Did you take a soil sample?

Hi,
I have just started a Blueberry orchard in Rutledge, Georgia (about 8 Miles from Madison, GA) and would like to know if there is someone that could come out and see the orchard. I planted the small plants (1400)in January 2012. Some of the plants seem to be doing good while others have the rust on them and some have just died. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have been spraying the plants with the rust with Fungicide but I cannot tell if it is helping or not.

Any advice or assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Eva
