SOUTHERN CORN RUST SPREADING ACROSS SOUTH GEORGIA

SOUTHERN CORN RUST SPREADING ACROSS SOUTH GEORGIA

Dr. Bob Kemerait, University of Georgia Extension pathologist, reports “It is clear that southern corn rust is widespread across the Coastal Plain of Georgia, likely as a result of TS Beryl and rainy days since then.”

We have confirmed that southern corn rust is present in the following counties:

Seminole
Terrell
Worth
Atkinson
Ben Hill
Brooks
Therefore, the disease is in west, central and now developing in east Georgia.  It will continue to develop and spread with each rain event and also with irrigation.
